We will discuss a short History of Qatar National Musuem, history by TRTseries.
After Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani ascended the throne in 1972, he drew up plans
for a national museum to document the country’s heritage and traditions.
That year he commissioned Michael Rice & Company to design the structural
and functional aspects. from the museum. It was decided that the building should
enclose the old Amiri Palace, a derelict early 20th-century palace previously
occupied by the former Emir of Qatar, Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani.
A lagoon has also been created to display traditional dhow and pearl diving equipment.

Originally called the National Museum of Qatar, it opened on June 23, 1975.
Originally, the facilities included a 100-seat auditorium and a library.
In 1980 the museum received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
The royal palace around which the museum was built was remodeled
in 2015 in preparation for the opening of the new museum.
